3rd Dan Instructor
Biography
“Ever since I was a child, I have had this instinctive urge for expansion and growth. To me, the function and duty of a quality human being is the sincere and honest development of one’s potential.” – Bruce Lee
I am Ella and I am delighted to help guide and instruct students at the Denver Karate Academy. My passion and near obsession with the martial arts culture has been with me for as long as I can remember. It may have started with my first Bruce Lee film, Enter the Dragon. I finally found an opportunity to turn my fascination into reality with DKA. Once I had achieved my 1st Black Belt, I was asked if I was interested in being an instructor; it was both the most exciting and humbling day of my life. I committed myself to being the best teacher I can be!
I found that my love of martial arts has grown into a passionate lifestyle of caring for the mind, body, and ultimately one’s overall health. I have worked in the healthcare industry, as a dental assistant, for over 25 years and from teeth to feet (pun intended) I strive to guide and teach patients about the best ways to tackle their overall health and I feel privileged to be able to impart such concepts in martial arts, as well.
Please allow me to share in some fun facts about myself:
I’m happily married and have two grown children, plus an extremely spoiled Husky. I grew up in the Bay Area so I’m a huge San Francisco 49er fan “Always Faithful” to my team and football. I love the outdoors. I’m an avid runner and, more recently, working on my longboarding skills. I believe that family is the most important thing in life so I’m at my happiest when spending time with loved ones. I enjoy reading, as well as watching both horror movies and romantic comedies but documentaries and old martial arts films are my absolute favorite (especially IP Man and Bruce Lee films). I’m deathly afraid of sharks but I will swim in the ocean-just tell me the sharks are circling somewhere other than where I am swimming.
I truly believe we can live in harmony if we can respect humankind: “Kindness is free to give, but priceless to receive.”
